Horse Benefit Auction catalog
Going
once, going twice....SOLD to Benefit the Georgia 4-H Horse
program! These words have rung out in Georgia for the past
fifteen years. 2010 will bring the 16th Annual Georgia
4-H Horse Benefit Auction, and this year we are again excited
to be working with the UGA Equine Science Program to offer
a combined sale, now known as the Bulldog Bonanza!!!
The 4-H
auction was the brainchild of the Georgia Farm Bureau Equine
Commodity Committee and specialists at the University of Georgia.
Each year donations of horses are solicited throughout the
year to be sold at auction. In addition there is an additional
auction featuring such items as tack and horse-related equipment
and clothing.
Proceeds
are divided evenly between the Georgia 4-H Horse Program and
Equine research at the University of Georgia. The money has
supported many programs that would not have been possible
otherwise. The Georgia 4-H Horse Program continues to grow
and has been able to keep fees low for participants, junior
leaders and adult leaders at Horse School. Auction funds also
support the state winning Horse Quiz Bowl Team’s trip
to the National Competition. On the research side of things,
auction proceeds have helped to fund an early prepubertal
castration on the growth and behavior of colts, effects of
Vitamin E supplementation on immunity in foals, effect of
feeding perennial peanut hay and the effects of feeding conjugated
linoleic acid on the fat deposition of mares.
The
Georgia 4-H Horse Program and the UGA Equine Science Program
salute Georgia Farm Bureau for their dedication and support
over the past sixteen years. The Benefit Auction has been
a very successful collaboration benefiting many 4-Hers
and others interested in equine programs. Make your plans
now to be in Athens on April 24th at noon, at the UGA
Livestock Instructional Arena, to see the excitement first
hand at the 2010
Bulldog Bonanza!
