In 2010, Fort Valley State University’s public library in Twiggs County, Georgia burned down after being struck by lightning. The 25-year-old library housed computers and technology that many people did not have available to them in their homes, as well as more than 15,000 books that were destroyed.

Tift County 4-H'ers Anna Johnson, Miles McDonald, Ben Branch and Conor Dunn were named the State winning team in the Georgia 4-H Cotton Boll and Consumer Jamboree Contest. 4-H Program Assistant, Miles Drummund, served as the team coach. This team will represent Georgia in the Western Regional 4-H Roundup Consumer Decisions Contest in January, 2013.

Tess Hammock of Monroe County won National 4-H honors recently by being named the Champion in the National 4-H Chicken Barbecue Contest. The competition was held during the 2011 National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. This annual conference allows 4-H’ers from all over the country to compete in educational events that help them learn to make and defend decisions, speak publicly, and gain poultry-related skills.
