Operation Purple® Camps

The Operation Purple Camp program is provided by the National Military Family Association with support from the Sierra Club and the Sierra Club Foundation.

One Operation Purple Camps will be offered during the summer of 2011 in Georgia.

  • OPC - Tybee Island (Burton 4-H Center) - July 5-9, 2011 - Ages 10-12

All aboard and come join the fun at Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island! Nestled on 6 acres surrounded by salt marsh on the Georgia coast and only a short distance from Georgia's oldest city, Savannah, you'll be sure to have fun in the sun with your new friends at Burton 4-H Center. Camp registration is open to all military youth ages 10-12. Campers will participate in a variety of activities such as exploring the local marshes, discovering marine life through seining and beach ecology, participating in a service-learning project, taking a marsh cruise around the island, beach time and much more! Campers will also have the opportunity to meet other military kids as well as hang out with fun counselors! Volunteer Adult Leaders

Georgia 4-H is currently looking for volunteers to serve as in-cabin leaders and assist 4-H Camp Counselors in facilitating activities, providing discipline and having fun!

  • Adult leaders are needed for the week of camp
  • Adult leaders will be screened in accordance with UGA College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences policies and complete Overnight Chaperone Training prior to camp. Overnight Chaperone Training may be completed by any Georgia Extension Agent
  • Adult leaders must be at least 19 years of age
  • Adult leaders are housed with youth in cabins and will travel with youth throughout the schedule of the camp day, assisting 4-H Camp Counselors with workshops, field trips and discipline
