- Leadership Day/4-H Day at the Capitol

Click here for a printable schedule for the day. Updated February 8th, 2008.

Please Note the Schedule Has Been Changed As of February 8th.

It was announced the morning of February 8th that the Senate will be starting their February 11th session early, at 10:00am instead of 1:00 pm.

There are two implications as a result:

1. SENATE PAGES
Counties who have registered a page in the Senate need to arrive at the Senate Page Desk on the third floor of the Capitol by 8:30 am in order to attend orientation in time for the 10:00 session.

To help us plan for Monday, please email Marilyn Poole at marpoole@uga.edu by 4:00pm on Sunday afternoon to let us know if you can accommodate this change of plans.

2. HONOREES
Counties with Honorees need to have them registered at the Depot between 9:30 and 10:00 am so that they can leave the depot as a group at 10:00 am.

Everyone else, please plan to arrive and register between 10:00 and 10:30 am as originally planned.

The 7th Annual Leadership Day in Georgia , sponsored by the Georgia Rural Development Council (GRDC) will be held at the Georgia Freight Depot In Atlanta  ( Map ). Please follow the link for directions and a map.

The Depot is adjacent to Underground Atlanta and groups can park in nearby parking decks.

4-H groups can register until midnight of February 6th . The first 300 registered are guaranteed lunch.

Registered groups should arrive at the Depot and check in between 10:00 and 10:30 am, unless they have Senate Pages or Honorees.

A registration fee of $2.00 per attendee can be paid upon arrival, or sent to Charlene at the State 4-H Office in advance. Please make all checks payable to the Georgia 4-H Foundation.

It is imperative that we fill entire tables before partially filling others. Even if it means county groups split up.

Leadership Day is a time when leaders from all across Georgia come together to share best practices and success stories and identify ways to improve leadership efforts in Georgia . Combined with 4-H Day at the Capitol, it provides 4-H'ers an opportunity to learn about all the leadership opportunities offered in their communities, listen to great speakers, tour the state capitol and meet with their representatives.

Pages must first be registered by counties with their local representatives. Once they are approved, counties should note which 4-H'ers are pages for the day online and when they check in at the depot. There is a limit to the number of pages that can be accommodated.

An adult chaperone must sign pages in and out at the page desk.  Therefore, someone from their county will need to go to the Capitol with the group.

The chaperone should keep the personal belongings of the page, as there is no where to store coats and purses.

Make sure that each page has an index card, with the name of the legislator  that they are paging for and if  they are assigned to the House or Senate.
