Jim Phillips, a former Crisp County 4-Her, was a Clovers and Company member for three show seasons. He is a Master 4-H member, a State Congress winner in the Performing Arts General category, was the recipient of the State 4-H Jerry Patriarca Memorial College Scholarship, and successfully competed in the Huntseat Division at the Southeastern Regional 4-H Horse Championships in Memphis, Tennessee and Montgomery, Alabama.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre with a minor in Piano, and additional studies in Opera and Dance from Shorter College's renown School of the Arts in Rome, Georgia. He was a three-time State/Regional winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Voice Competitions and was a member of the internationally acclaimed Shorter Chorale. He was featured in the Chorale's concert tour of Spain and France , performing the Pas de Deux in Carmina Burana , as well as in major choral works including the Brahms Eine Deutches Requiem and Alto Rhapsodie.
Upon graduation from Shorter, Jim moved to New York City , where he was mentored by famed Fosse author/Broadway dancer and choreographer Margery Beddow.
A proud member of Actors Equity Association, the professional union of Actors and Stage Mangers, Jim has appeared on the New York stage in the Pre-Broadway workshop of Houdini the Musical at the New York Musical Theatre Festival; OffBroadway in Calthropia; as the title role in the contemporary opera Perfectomundo at the Ensemble Studio Theatre; as a featured soloist in the New York/U. S. concert premiere of The Scarlet Letter; as a soloist in The Songs of Patrick Dwyer (part of the Arts and Artists Concert Series); and shared the stage with Liza Minnelli performing the world-famous “Luigi's Jazz Warm-Up” at Celebrating Luigi , a benefit honoring jazz dance master Luigi on his 80th Birthday. Regionally, he has appeared in Jekyll and Hyde ( directed by original Broadway star Robert Cuccioli), La Cage aux Folles, My Fair Lady, Evita, and West Side Story.
He is also a certified Gyrotonic® trainer.
