Host A Japanese Student for Four Weeks

By hosting, the whole family can gain a new appreciation for their own country, learn about a whole other culture and make life-long friends in the process.

Labo Summer Inbound Program
Georgia 4-H will not participate in the Labo Summer Inbound Program for the summer of 2008. We hope to be able to provide this opportunity again in the near future.

Delegates will be picked up at Camp Fortson on July 23rd around 1:00 pm .

They will need to be dropped off at Camp Fortson the evening of August 19th.

4-H/Labo Summer Inbound Flyer
This is a quick fact sheet for potential host families

In the “Summer Inbound Program”, Japanese students stay with an American host family for four weeks, from the third week in July to the third week in August.

4-H works closely with the family, matching each Japanese delegate with a host brother or sister of the same age, gender and interests. The delegates range in age from 12 to 18 so families with kids between the ages of 10 to 20 can participate.

The Japanese Delegates:
- Arrive as strangers, but leave as friends
- Are well prepared
- Have their own medical insurance & spending money
- Do not come as tourists, but rather to experience and participate in the everyday life of your family

Becoming A Host Family
The Host Families:
- Share a willingness to open their home & heart
- Enthusiasm is the main qualification
- Don’t need to plan special activities
- Don’t need to incur extra expenses beyond food and a place to sleep
- Must have a child of the same gender and within two years of age of the Japanese delegate

For specific questions about hosting, contact an agent in your county or the State 4-H Office.

The Summer Inbound program is a great way to get started in 4-H International Programs and explore the world outside our borders. By hosting, the whole family can gain a new appreciation for their own nation, learn about a whole other culture and make life-long friends in the process.
