ELECTION & CAMPAIGN INFORMATION

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Any senior 4-H member, regardless of race, color or national origin, in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade (in September of 2008) who has not completed high school is eligible to seek the position of 4-H State Officer.

2. Candidate must be currently enrolled in 4-H, and remain active through the term of office.

3. 4-H'er should have a good 4-H project and leadership record in the county. This should be documented in the nomination packet using the application information.

4. Officer must be willing and able, to the best of his or her ability, to attend State meetings held during the school year, as well as in the summer. This includes planning meetings for major events.

NOMINATIONS

1. The attached Nomination Packet for Georgia 4-H Board of Directors should be received by June 11th, to Jenny Jordan (309 Hoke Smith Annex-UGA, Athens, Georgia 30602).  Nomination packets will be accepted at State 4-H Council registration provided the packet is complete and signed by the County Agent (4-H), parent & 4-H'er. Nomination packets submitted by June 11th will have a their complete application included in the candidate packets for Council. These packets will be displayed and available for all voting delegates to review. Also, candidates submitted by the 11th will have their names in the program.

2. A county may submit more than one nomination. However, county elections are strongly encouraged

CAMPAIGNING:

1. Use of cards, letters, favors, handbills, P.A. Systems, etc., by a candidate or his associates before or during the campaign will automatically disqualify the candidate. EXCEPTION: Candidates may wear or carry campaign posters. Candidates may also prepare one poster for display in the trading post.

2. Candidates and assistants may start campaigning beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday of State 4-H Council No posters may be hung prior to this time. Candidates may not dress in campaign apparrell, use posters or begin campaigning prior to this time.

3. No live animals permitted.

4. Candidates are required to attend candidate orientation. Candidates will turn in a cd labele with their name, county and the track number of the music used in the campaign skit.

CAMPAIGN SPEECHES

1. Campaign speeches must be made live by the candidate. (Candidates may not "lipsync" his/her speech to his/her recorded voice) and are limited to two minutes. Candidates should spend 50% of speech time discussing their 4-H involvement and qualifications for state office. 

2.Candidates may use recorded music in their presentation. Any recorded item must be on cd and submitted at candidate's orientation. CD's should be labeled with the candidate's name, county and the track number of the music. 

3. No other individuals will be permitted to be a part of the candidate's presentation.

4. Special props within reason are permitted. 4-H'ers must furnish all props.  No automobiles, trucks, or skits that involve water or fire will be permitted.

5. Candidates' themes that allude to 4-H Code of Conduct violations will not be permitted.

6. Campaign speeches must be reviewed and approved by County Extension Agent/4-H prior to Council.

7. Candidates may be asked at least one question before the delegation to answer extemporaneously.

ELECTIONS

1. Voting delegates will vote from the entire group of nominees in selecting the at-large offices.

2. A second election will be held with voting delegates casting votes for delegates within their district. This pool of nominees will consist only those 4-H'ers in that district who were not elected as at-large officers.

3. All officers will be announced by office at the State 4-H Council closing assembly.
