June 7-14, 2008 Washington , D.C.
2008 Citizenship Washington Focus Application
The Georgia 4-H delegation will be attending Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) in early June with plans to travel by charter bus. We will depart from a central location in Macon on Saturday, June 7 with other potential stop(s) depending on applications received, and, include an overnight stay in North Carolina. The group is scheduled to arrive at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, MD around 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8. The return trip will begin early Saturday morning June 14. Our expected return to a pre-determined location(s) will be in the late afternoon-early evening. Delegates will be housed three to a room with a private bath at the National 4-H Center.
The estimated cost of this great experience is $1,027.00 and is based on prices quoted at this time which may be subject to a slight change.
Citizenship Washington Focus is a week-long civic course where delegates explore our government through educational field trips, learning exercises and active discussions. The experience includes a visit to the Arlington Cemetery, a night view of Washington, a field trip to Mount Vernon, a visit to several memorials, a cultural experience with a trip to a theater or concert, and many other fun-filled activities including a visit to Capitol Hill. This is truly an excellent opportunity and experience for senior 4-H'ers.
APPLICATION DEADLINE is MARCH 19, 2008 . Applicants will be notified by March 31 whether or not their application(s) has/have been accepted.
A $150.00 non-refundable deposit is required along with the application to be considered. Deposits will only be returned if a member is not selected due to space availability. Checks should be made payable to the Georgia 4-H Foundation .
The fee balance is due by May 2. Please note that 4-H'ers should carry money for extra meals (see estimated budget). Should there be more qualified applicants than spaces available, a committee will select those to attend based on their application. Those who have previously attended CWF may also apply and have the opportunity to be selected to return again but, will be based on the number of applicants and space.
The cost to delegates participating in CWF may be handled in several ways: (1) the delegate pays full cost; (2) full cost may be paid by a county donor; or, (3) the delegate pays a part and a donor pays part of the cost. Many civic groups in the county may agree to pay a portion of the cost in return for the delegate presenting a program on their trip's highlights. Also, you may ask for individual donations to cover specific costs i.e., meals, transportation, etc.
Of course, we're looking forward to having an excellent group of 4-H'ers represent Georgia at this year's Citizenship/Washington Focus.

Special notice! ! !
First, we're sorry for the short application turnaround period. Please note that special effort and significant time have gone into establishing the cost indicated realizing it is slightly different from previous years.
Unfortunately, transportation and conference costs continue to increase while the number of delegates attending this event has decreased. Also, another important factor to note from previous year's cost is that the support received from a New York Life grant which benefited all delegates was very minimal this year.
As you may have noticed, this cost has not been inflated (itemized to the penny) and reflect price quotes at this time. With this in mind, we're hoping that you will continue to support this important 4-H experience by making a special effort to encourage potential members and/or to assist them where possible in obtaining necessary funding to attend this event.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support of this program!
