Ali Nelson will be Wahsega’s 2005 lead counselor

Ali Nelson has accepted the position of lead summer camp counselor at Wahsega 4-H Center for the summer of 2005. Ali is a full-time student in middle grades education at Georgia Perimeter College and works in the marketing division at Cornerstone Realty of Georgia during the school year.

Ali is one of sixteen lead counselors serving the five Georgia 4-H centers this summer. She will be the head counselor at Wahsega and will supervise eight regular counselors as they facilitate the program for about 1200 campers during six one-week sessions.

Three of those weeks will be for Cloverleaf Camp (rising 6th and 7th graders) and one week each for Wilderness Challenge Camp, Sr. Camp, and Jr. Camp. This will be one of the most exciting and perhaps challenging summers for counselors at Wahsega in several years due to the variety of camps that we are hosting for Georgia 4-H.

“I really like the changes made to the schedule. I think the rotations will be much better not only for the campers, but for the counselors as well” Ali said after reviewing the Cloverleaf Camp schedule. It has been adjusted to allow youth to participate on the high-ropes course with counselors that they know well.

Ali’s counselor career includes two years at Rock Eagle 4-H Center followed by one year here at Wahsega last summer. As lead counselor, Ali has a year-long role that begins with Leadership Training Weekend in mid-January and ends with the Winter Reunion party in December. Among the many duties she will perform between now and the end of the year are selecting her team of counselors for the summer, planning and leading training events, directing the summer program and editing the massive Lead Counselor Outline.

This summer, Ali will bring considerable leadership and people skills to Wahsega along with a wealth of experience, energy and enthusiasm. We are delighted to have her on board and know that the adults and youth attending camp will enjoy getting to know her.
