Guidelines for Citing Sources





Quoted Material

Direct quotations should be reproduced exactly in wording, spelling, punctuation, and spelling.  According to the Chicago Manual of Style, p. 357, the following are permissable changes in direct quotes:



Photographs

Photographs should include the source in the caption.  This includes (if known) the photographer as well as the source for the photo such as the owner, museum, newspaper, or reference book.  Examples of credits may include:
    Painting by Lynwood Hall, 1985; from Rock Eagle 4-H Center
    Photograph courtesy of Mrs. Cecil Johnson
    Bill Sutton, photographer,  1959; from Eatonton Messenger




Receiving Permission

Written permission is necessary for documents not in public domain or that are not part of Extension service (University of Georgia) property.  All pictures previously reproduced should be traced and credited to their previous sources.  If material, written or photographic, is copywrited written permission is necessary except for brief summaries and quotations.

Collaborator's Credit
Include at the close of the county's text submission the name(s) of those who prepared the county history.  These contributors should be listed as:
Contributed by:

As many names may be listed as is accurate for the submission.
