Competition Guidelines:To acquire a better knowledge of horses and develop skills in the selection of horses. To learn to identify breeds of horses, evaluate conformation and performance. To defend placing decisions with oral reasons. To promote critical thinking skills, decision making, organization, team work and public speaking skills.
One State contest will be held. The contest will consist of five or more classes. Classes offered will depend on availability. These classes may be a combination of halter, performance and equitation classes. State winners will be selected on the county team basis. Total score of the high three per county will constitute the county team score. (A county team may consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of twenty Senior and twenty Junior participants - counties may designate the 20 4-H'ers as separate teams if they wish.) Individuals may also compete. Select county winners on a basis of total score. Competition will include placing one or more halter classes of horses and one or more performance classes of horses. Awards & Recognition:
Each participant will receive an award card and a judging pin. State Winning senior team (consisting of the top four team members from the county) and the high senior individual will be eligible for Master 4-H'er status and participate in the recognition of Special Events Winners at State 4-H Congress. The banquet meal and lodging expenses will be paid for the team and coach; however, travel costs are not covered. The state winning senior team will represent Georgia at the Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. These four team members will not be able to compete again. They may also choose to compete at Southern Regionals at their own expense. The top four members of the second place senior team will compete at the Eastern Regional Contest in Louisville, Kentucky. This team is eligible to compete in the state contest in following years but may not compette in the Eastern Regional contest a second time. The top four members of the third place senior team will compete at the Sountern Regional contest and is eligible to compete in the state contest in following years.
