Objectives:Enhance youth development of self-concept, character and personal growth through safe, educational and socially acceptable involvement in shooting activities. To involve youth in a life skills program that teaches safe and responsible use of shooting sports equipment including sound decision-making, self-discipline and concentration. To promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship and ethical behavior. To expose participants to the broad array of vocational and life-long avocation activities related to shooting sports. To strengthen families through participation in life-long recreational activities. To complement and enhance the impact of existing safety, shooting and hunter education programs using experiential (hands on) educational methods and progressive development of skills and abilities.
Competition Guidelines:Certified Coaches / AdultsA county may enter any number of eligible Senior 4-H'ers. All air rifle matches will be individual and team competition for senior 4-H'ers only. Teams are composed of four members with the team score being determined by all four 4-H'ers. Counties may enter more than one team. If more than one team is entered, the county must designate prior to the start of the event the members of each team. There will be separate competition for precision and sporter air rifle. Targets will be the ten bullseye target designated by the National Three Position Air Rifle Council as NC-AR10 Course of fire will be the current CMP 3 Position Air Rifle Competition 3X10 consisting of 10 shots each from the prone, standing, and kneeling position, fired in that order at a distance of 10 meters or 33 feet. Total of possible points for the match is 300 points. Targets but not ammunition will be furnished at state matches. All competition rules will be governed by the CMP 3-P Air Rifle Rules as outlined by the most current rule book. A copy of the current rule book can be obtained from the CMP website at www.odcmp.org 4-H rules take precedence over other rules. Clear Bore Indicators (CBI’s) made of highly visible material, preferably orange, must be used. CBI’s can be cut from replacement string for weed trimmers so that it extends several inches from the muzzle and breech when inserted. All 4-H'ers must wear eye protection. Other 4-H rules will be outlined in the program/agenda for the event as deemed necessary by the development committee. Awards & RecognitionCounties are required to have a minimum of one 4-H certified coach in the rifle discipline per 10 4 H’ers present at all county, district and state activities. The 4-H Project SAFE Committee strongly recommends that there should be one discipline certified coach for each 1-4 person team. A 4-H certified coach in rifle discipline must be present for a county practice or event to be recognized as a Georgia 4-H SAFE program. Additional adequate adult supervision should be present to serve as safety officers and help facilitate all aspects of Project SAFE events and activities. Adults should be Certified Overnight Chaperone Trained or Screened Volunteers depending upon responsibilities and roles assigned. Awards are as outlined by the Project SAFE Development Committee. The shooter with the highest score is named the high individual. The team with the highest score will be named the state winning team. The first place team in both precision and sporter air rifle will be eligible for Master 4-H'er status and to participate in the recognition of Special Events Winners at State 4-H Congress. The banquet meal and lodging expenses will be paid for the team and coach; however, travel costs are not covered. Additionally the high individual in precision and sporter air rifle will also be eligible for Master 4-H'er status and to participate in the recognition of Specialist Events Winners at State 4-H Congress. State winning teams and individuals are eligible to compete again during subsequent years. The first place senior sporter team at the state 4-H match may be eligible to represent Georgia in the 4-H National Invitational Match. There is no competition for precision at the national level.
