Youth and Rural Georgia

The Third Biennial 2006 Georgia Youth Summit is designed to create an awareness of state/local issues, to enhance youth-adult partnerships on the local level, and to equip youth to become active locally in the betterment of their community.

Program Funding: The Governor and Georgia General Assembly approved funding of the Third Biennial 2006 Georgia Youth Summit as a project of the Youth and Rural Georgia Leadership Development Initiative.

Funding of the program provides each of Georgia’s 159 counties with a full sponsorship of conference fees for four rising 10th/11th graders and one adult. The county team must secure their own transportation to/from the event and pay registration fees for additional delegates.

Content: The key content issues for the conference include:
• Education
• Community Development
• Health
• Safety

Through the completion of the state of the county report, county teams will come to the conference with background information about each issue relative to their county.

Program Format: The conference is designed to begin at 2pm on Saturday, September 30th with delegate registration. The event concludes on Monday, October 2nd with lunch.

Community and state resource persons are essential elements to issue background development, the issue discussions, as well as county planning and networking. Involvement of the Georgia Rural Development Council as well as Council Chairperson, Governor Sonny Perdue are assets to issue background development, the issue discussions, county planning and networking.
